Health-damaging Listeria monocytogenes detected in salami - Product recall
During an examination of a product sample, listeria were detected, and a health hazard or microbiological contamination cannot be ruled out. This finding led to a recall of various salami products.
Listeria are widespread in the environment and can be found on plants, in sewage systems, as well as in the stool of healthy and diseased animals. They frequently occur in raw foods (e.g., meat, poultry, milk, vegetables, fish, and seafood) but are also of significance in processed foods (e.g., meat and sausage products, smoked fish products, mixed salads).
These bacteria can cause very severe illnesses, especially in pregnant women, infants, older adults, and sick individuals. The proportion of deaths occurring in these groups is relatively high.
At BAV Institute, we regularly conduct examinations for listeria. We provide you with fast and reliable results and are happy to advise you on all matters related to product safety. Our customer advisors are available to assist you with any questions.
