HygieneDeficienciesInFoodFromDistributionCenters
The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) as well as the Länder Consumer Protection Working Group (LAV) presented results from investigations into food safety in Germany at their annual press conference in Berlin. A central topic was an analysis of 503 distribution stations from the year 2024, which revealed that compliance with food law regulations is not always ensured.
For example, at 204 distribution stations (40.6%), no responsible person was registered with the competent food monitoring authority, or the registered person had not participated in the required training or briefing. Hygienic deficiencies were found in 181 stations (36.0%). The regulations for non-prepackaged foods were not followed in 93 stations (18.5%), and there were deficiencies in the handling of refrigerated and perishable foods in 75 stations (14.9%).
To ensure the correct handling and compliance with food law regulations in the distribution of food, the federal government, Länder, and consumer protection organizations provide corresponding guidelines. The guidelines and the detailed results of the investigation can be accessed here.
