In the Rapid Alert Portal of the European Commission and on Lebensmittelwarnung.de, authorities are warning, among others, about butter mackerel fillets, trout fillets, shrimps, gravad lax, halibut in various variations, salmon in various variations, mackerel/-fillets in various variations, sprats, tilapia strips, wild salmon, as well as mixed packages of these products that bear an incorrect use-by date. The use-by date indicates how long the manufacturer guarantees safe consumption and is usually determined using microbiological tests. After expiration, contained germs multiply beyond the established limits and can pose a serious health risk.
