Terms like "Finest" or "Premium" can be misleading

Strict regulations apply to the labeling of fruits and vegetables. Consumers must be able to rely on the designation with the respective classes and the associated quality criteria. At Spain's request, the EU Commission has stated that claims with terms like "Finest" or "Premium" in direct connection with the class indication may be misleading to consumers.

Statements like "Finest" or "Premium" in connection with Class I create the impression that it is of the highest possible quality. However, the relevant EU regulation (DVO (EU) No. 543/2011) provides for Extra Class for this purpose.

However, the terms mentioned may be used elsewhere on the packaging outside the labeling field. The class indication must generally be displayed in a non-misleading manner, according to the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food.
