Labeling of meat and fish substitute products

The labeling or presentation of vegan and/or vegetarian foods should be designed in such a way that when referring to an animal food or species, it does NOT mislead the consumer.

A misleading situation can generally be ruled out if statements about the animal food are made directly in the product name with a clear reference to the substitute. This clarifies that it is NOT the mentioned animal food, even if the species or a specific part is additionally mentioned with a clear explanation of the substitute product.

Allowed are examples such as:

It is generally NOT permissible to label animal foods, such as turkey schnitzel, beef filet, duck breast filet, etc., solely in connection with the indication "vegan" or "vegetarian."
