LabelingIodizedTableSalt - In BAV Newsletter 02/2015

The Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) has suggested to the EU Commission to create an exemption for the labeling of iodized table salt.

So far, indicating “iodized salt” or “iodized table salt” in the list of ingredients sufficed. However, the new LMIV stipulates that compound ingredients must be broken down. For iodized table salt, it must also be specified whether potassium or sodium iodate was used. Although a decision by the Commission is still pending, it can be assumed that objections to the labeling can be countered successfully by referring to the BMEL's letter.
