In Schleswig-Holstein, the second draft legislation for mandatory disclosure of food safety inspection results was submitted to the state parliament in September 2019 (www.schleswig-holstein.de).

The necessity of the so-called "Pottkieker" law is cited as increasing transparency in the results of food regulatory inspections (keyword Topf Secret) and the repeated demands since 2011 by the Consumer Protection Ministers' Conference to establish a nationwide system (www.bav-institut.de, www.bav-institut.de). The goal is to better equip consumers in dealing with food and thereby exert pressure on businesses to raise their hygiene and safety standards.
