Lip balms in the test
In the current Cosmetics Guide (06-2018) of the Öko-Test magazine, a total of 24 lip balms were closely examined. In particular, the following question was scrutinized: Are saturated mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH) present in the products, which can in turn contain aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) as an impurity?
MOAH may contain components that could be carcinogenic.
The results were: 13x very good, 2x satisfactory, 6x deficient, and 3x inadequate. A downgrade mainly occurred due to increased MOAH levels, but also due to questionable UV filters and silicones. Especially for lip care products, the content of concerning MOAH should be as low as possible, as on average about 20g of product is swallowed and ingested orally annually, as calculated by the EU scientific committee (SCCS).
The current guide issue also contains test reports on lipsticks, shower gels, deodorants and antiperspirants, perfumes, and hair dyes.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct these examinations. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
Our customer advisors are very pleased to be at your service for any questions.
