Listeria monocytogenes in "pepper sausages" at weekly markets

Last week, a food recall occurred again due to the detection of Listeria monocytogenes. This time, "Pfefferbeißer" were affected, which were sold at various weekly markets from November 6, 2021, to November 15, 2021.

According to a statement (No. 004/2021) from the BfR, cases of listeriosis are increasing, often due to the contamination of ready-to-eat foods. Besides nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea after consuming affected foods, listeria can also lead to blood poisoning or meningitis after a longer incubation period. Pregnant women, in particular, should avoid foods that are particularly susceptible, as listeriosis can have fatal consequences for the unborn child.

The BAV Institute specializes in testing for Listeria monocytogenes. We regularly conduct this and corresponding challenge tests.

Additionally, we have two special newsletters

dedicated solely to this microorganism. They contain further information about L. monocytogenes, its examination, and its legal background.
