The Commission on Biological Hazards and Hygiene advises the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) as a voluntary and independent expert body in identifying hazards that result in foodborne infections and intoxications.
A particular focus is on questions about the occurrence and assessment of pathogens and their toxins along the food chain.
The following work topics have been selected as relevant:
- Irrigation of crops with treated wastewater
- Revision of the BfR consumer tips on cleaning and disinfection
Additionally, the following should be monitored and possibly reassessed for relevance at a later date:
- Human pathogens (STEC, Salmonella) in flour
- Transmission of antibiotic-resistant bacteria through food
The results of the commission are published at the BfR. The complete minutes are available at www.bfr.bund.de.
