Microbiologically questionable products in the EU Rapid Alert System

Last week, the EU Rapid Alert System (RAPEX) also reported microbiologically suspicious products.

An increased number of so-called aerobic mesophilic microorganisms leads to recalls and usually to the destruction of the corresponding products. The requirements of the EU Cosmetic Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 and those of DIN EN ISO 17516 are not met.

Product recalls are very often due to pseudomonads, but also other germs such as Burkholderia spp. (e.g., Burkholderia cepacia), Pluralibacter gergoviae, etc.

Have your final products and raw materials, including the production water used, regularly analyzed for the content of bacteria, yeasts, and molds.

The staff of BAV Institute is at your disposal for any questions regarding the microbiological analysis of cosmetics with advice and support.
