Migration of nanoparticles from tattoo inks into the body
In a recent announcement, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) published a study indicating that components of tattoo inks, in the size of nanoparticles, can migrate into the body and permanently deposit in the lymph nodes. This was proven with the pigment TiO2, which is also found in sunscreens and food products.
Until now, only color changes of the lymph nodes in tattooed individuals were known. Further investigations are to clarify the precise relationships and possible health-relevant effects.
