Mycotoxins in Ketchup – 23 Products Tested

Stiftung Warentest has tested 23 ketchup products. Among other things, the sensory qualities, the level of contaminants, and the composition were evaluated. Sugar and salt content were particularly in focus.

A deficiency was identified in one product due to high levels of mycotoxins.

Mycotoxins are toxic metabolites produced by mold that are undesirable in food and feed. For humans, they rarely cause acute health issues, but they can be carcinogenic or genetically damaging in the long term. Therefore, strict maximum content regulations for mycotoxins apply according to Regulation (EU) 2023/915.

In our (partner) laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for mycotoxins and nutrients. We provide you with fast and reliable results.

For questions, our customer advisors are very happy to assist you.
