NewBfROpiniononAluminumIntakeandPotentialHealthRisks
In a recent statement by the BfR (Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) from November 18, 2019, the topic of aluminum intake by consumers and potential health risks is explained.
Aluminum compounds can be ingested through food, food contact materials (e.g., baking trays), or cosmetics (toothpaste, antiperspirants). In this statement, the total intake amount for different age groups was comprehensively estimated and evaluated for the first time. It shows that intake through food, unlike previous studies, is no longer the main source.
The BfR recommends that consumers reduce the total amount of aluminum through appropriate product selection, especially for children.
