New Directive (EU) 2024/825 - Greenwashing

This Directive was published in February 2024 and aims to ensure that companies do not mislead consumers regarding claims about the ecological impact of products.

It also regulates the use of sustainability labels and prohibits the use of general environmental claims (e.g. green, eco-friendly, ecological) that cannot be comprehensively substantiated for the respective product.

Directive (EU) 2024/825 is to be transposed into national law by the Member States by March 27, 2026, and applied by September 27, 2026.

Already, under the prohibition of misleading advertising according to the Unfair Competition Act (UWG), inaccurate advertising claims can be reprimanded.
