New guidelines for cosmetics for export to China published - valid from 01/01/2022
In early April, the NMPA in China (National Medical Products Administration) published the "Technical Guidelines for Cosmetic Safety Assessment."
These will replace animal testing for products starting May 1, 2021.
The guidelines are part of the new Cosmetic Supervision and Administration Regulation (CSAR).
Two main points are particularly relevant:
- By January 1, 2022, at the latest, cosmetics manufacturers must prepare and maintain a safety report for their products
- A simplified version can still be prepared according to the guidelines until May 1, 2024
The texts are not yet available in English; further guidelines will be published by the authorities over the course of the year.
