New Law on the Implementation of Fish Labelling - In BAV Newsletter 05/2015
With the entry into force of the FIC in December 2014, the labeling of fish according to EU Regulation 1379/2013 is valid. Subsequently, the implementation into German law is now taking place in stages with the amendment of the Fish Labeling Act, which came into effect on 24.10.2015 (the Fish Labeling Ordinance is yet to follow).
The following information on the label is mandatory, among others:
- Trade name of the fish species (with scientific name)
- Production method (e.g., aquaculture, inland fishing, …)
- Catch area (for certain catch areas also the sub-area)
- Fishing gear category (e.g., trawl, seine net, hook, …)
- Defrosting notice
- Minimum shelf life date
