New Standard DIN 10524 Food Hygiene on Work Clothing in Food Enterprises
An important innovation of the new standard concerns the color selection of work clothing. The revised standard 10524:2019-12 recommends that in the future, in "hygienically sensitive areas, the color of the parts of the work clothing that may be particularly exposed to direct hygiene-relevant contamination (e.g., apron, sleeves, etc.) should be selected in such a way that the hygiene-relevant contaminations occurring during work are easily visually detectable (with reference to a standardized contrast determination method according to DIN EN 20105-A02 and DIN EN 20105-A03).
Other parts of the work clothing may have differing color contrasts to contaminations. Deviations in color selection are possible for trimmings, logos, and the clothing of maintenance personnel, provided they are hygienically acceptable.".
Especially with regard to the color selection of work clothing, there have often been disagreements between supervision and companies in the past. Whether this will improve with the new standard remains to be seen in the future.
