New Website of the German Food Code Commission (DLMBK)
A year ago, the German Food Code Commission (DLMBK) was newly reformed. As part of this, a new website with information about the DLMBK's working methods and functions was launched.
The DLMBK provides clarity for foods with the guidelines of the German Food Code, as they are an important guide for manufacturers, trade, importers, consumers, supervisory authorities, and courts. In the guidelines, the DLMBK describes the general market perception, that is, the common understanding of more than 2000 foods regarding the composition and other characteristics of the recorded products. The guidelines describe the properties of the foods available on the market. They reflect both the honest manufacturing and trade practices as well as legitimate consumer expectations. The DLMBK is an independent body, composed equally of representatives from food monitoring, the food industry, science, and consumer organizations. In product-specific expert committees, the DLMBK advises on the respective foods, taking current market developments into account, currently, for example, also about vegan and vegetarian foods.
