In the fight against food losses, the Norwegian food industry has agreed on a new, extended best-before date. They chose the labeling "Best før, ofte god etter" – translated: "Best before (xx.yy.), but often still good after."

After the Norwegian dairy Q-Meieriene last year labeled its products with a new marking (best before xx.yy., but not bad after) and thus attracted attention, the industry is now following suit.

End consumers are responsible for around 60 percent of food losses in Norway, reports the newspaper "Avisa Nordland". The goal of the voluntary labeling is to make consumers aware that food is not automatically bad after the best-before date. In addition, it was decided to develop a unified symbol urging people to rely on their senses and to examine the food sensorily ("Se, lukt, smak" – look, smell, taste).

In our laboratory, we conduct this examination routinely. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
