Cosmetic products of concern in the European rapid alert system RAPEX

Also last week, the European Union's rapid alert system (RAPEX) once again detected suspicious cosmetic products.

In a children's hand soap, microorganisms such as Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas stutzeri, Klebsiella oxytoca, Citrobacter freundii, and Enterobacter cloacae were detected. All of these germs are gram-negative bacteria that can cause infections.

This product did not meet the requirements of DIN EN ISO 17516 (microbiological limits for cosmetic products).

Another product (for use on the eyes) was found to contain the pharmacologically active substance Bimatoprost. According to the EU Cosmetics Regulation EU (VO) 1223/2009, pharmacologically active substances must not be contained.

In both cases, the products were recalled from the market.
