NRW plans hygiene database on the Internet - In BAV Newsletter 03/2012

During a special inspection by the Ministry of Consumer Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia, significant hygiene deficiencies were found in some large bakeries.

In over 90% of the 227 inspected large-scale operations, follow-up inspections were required due to poor conditions. Nine bakeries had to be fully or partially closed, while two other companies voluntarily suspended operations temporarily for a thorough cleaning.

As a first measure, the state is currently considering introducing a statewide internet database in which hygiene violations resulting in a fine of at least 350 EUR should be published by the responsible authorities.
