Nut-Nougat-Cream in Ökotest – Finding of Mineral Oil Components (MOSH/MOAH)

In the September 2022 issue of Öko-Test, 21 nut nougat creams were tested, including 9 with organic certification.

The following test parameters were examined:

·         Mineral oil components (MOSH/MOAH)

·         Fat contaminants (3-MCPD and glycidol)

·         Mold toxins (mycotoxins)

Mineral oil components (MOSH/MOAH)

Mineral oil components can enter foods via machine lubricants or packaging plastics. In 17 nut nougat creams, a (slightly) increased level of MOSH mineral oil components was found. Traces of MOSH were also detected in the remaining 4 products. The aromatic mineral oil hydrocarbons MOAH, which may contain carcinogenic compounds, were not detectable in any of the products. Thus, the majority of nut nougat creams only achieve a mediocre result.

Fat contaminants (3-MCPD and glycidol)

Fat contaminants are process-related contaminants in foods that have a potential to harm health and are therefore undesirable in foods. The fat contaminants 3-MCPD and glycidol were not detected in any of the tested products. In this regard, all nut nougat creams perform well.

Mold toxins (mycotoxins)

Mold toxins are metabolites of molds that can enter foods in various ways. No mold toxins were detected in any of the tested products.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct analyses for mineral oil components (MOSH/MOAH). We provide fast and reliable results.
Our customer consultants are happy to answer your questions.
