Oatmeal in Eco-Test – Detection of Mycotoxins and Glyphosate

Oatmeal in Eco-Test – Detection of Mycotoxins and Glyphosate

In the October 2022 edition of Öko-Test, 29 hearty oatmeal products were tested, including 16 with organic certification.

The following test parameters were examined:

Mold Toxins (Mycotoxins)

Mold toxins are metabolic products of mold fungi that can enter food in various ways. They are cytotoxic and can weaken the immune system. In the test, T-2 and HT-2 toxins were detected at elevated levels in five products. These toxins come from fungi that infect the oats already in the field.

Pesticides (Glyphosate)

Glyphosate was detected in four products. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classifies glyphosate as "probably carcinogenic to humans." The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) sees no suspicion of cancer.

Mineral Oil Compounds (MOSH/MOAH)

Mineral oil compounds can enter food through lubricating oils from machinery or packaging plastics. In four products, a (slightly) elevated level of the mineral oil components MOSH/MOAH was detected.

In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for mold toxins (mycotoxins), pesticides, and MOSH/MOAH. We provide fast and reliable results.
