A total of 41 conventional shampoos as well as natural cosmetic shampoos were examined in more detail in the current issue of the magazine Stiftung Warentest. More than half (24 products) were rated very good or good, 9 products were classified as satisfactory, while the remaining 10 products were rated as no more than sufficient.
Which product properties and ingredients led to devaluation? Essentially, these were:
- Silicones and silicone-containing compounds such as dimethicone
- Certain preservatives such as parabens or thiazolinones
- UV filters such as ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate
- Critical fragrances such as lilial
- PEG and PEG derivatives
It was also considered which substances, due to their properties, can remain as residues persistently in the environment and thus lead to problems.
