ÖKO-TEST takes a closer look at exfoliants
In the current February issue, 50 cosmetic peeling products are examined in more detail. A special focus was placed on the use of microplastics (e.g. polyethylene) and the question of whether these are used less frequently compared to the last examination.
The good news: Microplastic particles were no longer present. As a result, half of the products received a very good rating (9 were rated as good, the remaining products as satisfactory at best). Factors leading to downgrading included:
- Silicones and paraffins
- PEG compounds
- Aromatic hydrocarbons (MOAH)
- Fragrances lilial and hydroxycitronellal
- Synthetic musk fragrance
- Formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers
- Thiazolinones, e.g. methylchloroisothiazolinone (CIT)
Do you want to know how your product performs? The cosmetic experts of the BAV Institute examine the formulation in advance for potential ingredients that are downgraded by Öko-Test.
