Öko-Test tests wound protection creams – Mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOAH) and paraffins detected
In the current Öko-Test issue (March 2023), a total of 22 wound protection creams for babies were examined.
Öko-Test criticizes products with the following ingredients:
- Paraffins: Paraffins cannot be broken down in the environment
- Mineral oil compounds (MOAH – Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons) - Data availability is not clear. According to a BfR statement, health risks are not to be expected
- Butylhydroxytoluene (BHT): BHT is suspected to trigger allergies. It is often used as an antioxidant.
The basis for evaluating these products is the EU Cosmetics Regulation VO (EC) 1223/2009.
Make your product fit for Öko-Test and regularly check for the aforementioned substances and substance groups as well as other possible residues such as heavy metals.
The BAV Institute, in collaboration with the international Tentamus Laboratory Group, is at your disposal with the latest analytical techniques and years of expertise to assist you in word and deed.
