Eco-Monitoring Report 2017 for Baden-Württemberg published

The eco-monitoring serves to determine the contamination of organic foods with residues and contaminants. This aims to better identify the causes of contamination as well as consumer deception. It thus complements the mandatory controls of the EU inspection bodies.

In the past 15 years, over 11,000 samples have been analyzed. The focus has been on fruit and vegetable products and on pesticide residues.

In 2017, approximately 570 biologically produced products were analyzed as part of this program by the Chemical and Veterinary Inspection Offices of Baden-Württemberg (CVUA) for genetically modified organisms, origin and authenticity, pesticide residues, and superfood.

Overall, the rate of complaints about pesticide residues has stabilized at a low level over the past years. In 50% of the samples, no pesticide residues were detected. When residues were found, they were primarily in trace amounts (<0.01 mg/kg).

Genetic modifications were rarely detectable in the products. Proportions over 0.1% were never found.

The Superfood project showed irregularities in almost all the areas examined.
