On May 28, 2020, the BfR published announcement No. 024/2020 on the use of disinfectants in private households, food production, and food retail during "Corona times"

"Even in the current situation, the BfR maintains its recommendation that there is no need to use disinfectants with biocidal agents in private households without infected persons.

Handwashing with soap and the regular cleaning of surfaces and door handles with household detergent-based cleaning agents provide adequate protection against the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through smear infection. If there are particularly sensitive individuals with certain pre-existing conditions living in the private household, the use of disinfectants may be sensible and necessary."
