The Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office (FSVO) outlines the legal framework for indicating the country of production and the origin of ingredients in Information Letter 2019/2.

According to the current law in Switzerland, not only must the country of production of all foodstuffs be indicated, but the indication of the origin of important ingredients is also regulated. With regard to the indication of the origin of ingredients, it is particularly important to note that specifying a broader geographical area such as "EU" is not permitted. Instead, the specific country of origin must always be indicated for such ingredients. A selection of possible countries of origin is also not allowed.
