Outbreaks of listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes in smoked fish
Listeriosis infections have been reported from England and Scotland over the course of this year. In total, there were 6 infected individuals. Three people died from the disease.
The infections are attributed to smoked fish.
Listeria monocytogenes is increasingly playing an important role as an infectious agent, as the number of reported cases continues to rise.
These bacteria can cause very severe illnesses especially in pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and sick people. The proportion of fatal cases is relatively high in these individuals.
Both the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) provide comprehensive information on this zoonosis.
In our Tentamus laboratories we regularly conduct tests for listeria, along with strain comparisons and challenge tests. We provide fast and reliable results.
