PFAS analytics – fast and reliable with BAV Institute!

Perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are industrial chemicals used in industrial processes and consumer products. Due to the compounds' persistent nature, they accumulate in the environment and can consequently enter the food chain. 

The re-evaluation of the health risks posed by PFAS by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and an opinion from the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) highlight the urgent need for limits for these potentially carcinogenic substances. Therefore, since January 1, 2023, the limits for PFAS were incorporated into Regulation (EC) 2023/915 for selected animal-based foods such as eggs, fish, and meat.
