Some poultry farms in North Rhine-Westphalia may have to be closed due to positive results of PCB-contaminated feed. According to the state office, a feed manufacturer from North Rhine-Westphalia has been identified as the source. The contaminated feed is currently being secured and destroyed.
Contaminated broiler chicken was discovered at a slaughterhouse in East Westphalia. However, poultry and eggs were withdrawn from circulation before they reached the market. PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) are toxic substances that are very difficult to degrade. The detected concentrations do not pose an acute health risk. The contamination of the feed is believed to have been caused by paint chipping in two loading cells at the feed manufacturer.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct tests for PCBs. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
