Cosmetic Product Information File - What does it include?
The Product Information File (PIF) is an indispensable document for manufacturers of cosmetic products. It serves to ensure that a product meets all legal requirements and, among other things, that a safety assessment has been conducted.
A PIF must be created for each cosmetic product and made available to the competent authority upon request. It contains all relevant information to ensure the safety and proper use of the product.
The essential components of a Product Information File include:
- Description of the product with details on the type and composition of the cosmetic product
- Cosmetic safety report
- A description of the manufacturing method and compliance with cGMP
- Evidence of claimed effects (e.g., dermatologically tested)
- Data on possible animal testing
The PIF must be retained by the manufacturer for at least ten years after the last batch of the product has been placed on the market.
