Proposal of the European Commission on Whistleblowing
On Monday, March 11, 2019, Parliament and the Council agreed on rules to protect whistleblowers.
In addition to establishing secure channels for reporting grievances (in public and private organizations as well as authorities), whistleblowers are to be particularly protected from reprisals. A compilation of the most important points of the compromise can be found in the press release of the Council.
After the final adoption of the new regulation and its publication in the Official Journal, member states will then have two years to transpose it into national law.
