Public recall of a shampoo due to contamination with Pluralibacter gergoviae
A major discount retailer is currently conducting a nationwide public recall of a shampoo due to contamination with Pluralibacter gergoviae, previously known as Enterobacter gergoviae.
This gram-negative bacterium has caused a stir due to its adaptability. Pluralibacter gergoviae can bypass and even degrade certain preservative systems in cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
For precautionary consumer protection, a recall is necessary, as the germ is associated with specific illnesses. The recall notice states: “The germ can particularly provoke inflammatory reactions of the respiratory tract, skin, or eyes as well as urinary tract infections in immunocompromised and other sensitive groups (children, the elderly, pregnant women). Therefore, customers should definitely heed the recall and not use the affected product.”
At BAV Institute, we are well-versed with Pluralibacter gergoviae. Use our services for the development and quality control of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, e.g., extended preservative stress tests and support in case of incidents.
Our customer advisors are happy to assist you.
