RASFF Rapid Alert System: Complete Annual Report Published
The European Commission has now published the complete annual report on the notifications of the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
In 2016, there were approximately 3000 notifications in total, of which 28% were warnings and just under 40% were information on rejections at border controls. With around 1000 notifications, Germany is just behind Italy.
Pesticide residues, mycotoxins, heavy metal contamination, and undeclared allergens played a significant role. However, the highlighted food safety events were of microbiological origin, caused by Listeria monocytogenes in cheese, EHEC in raw sausages, and Salmonella in eggs.
