Regulation of Methyl Salicylate in Cosmetics

In 2021, this cosmetic ingredient (primarily a perfume component) was classified by the ECHA as a CRM substance Class 2. The EU Scientific Committee subsequently established potential limit values for this substance for various cosmetics product categories with Opinion SCCS/1633/21.

From December 2022, Methyl Salicylate will therefore be restricted in maximum quantity and included in Annex III of Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. Moreover, this substance may no longer be used in products for children under the age of 6.
