Recall of Eggs Contaminated with Fipronil
Fipronil is a biocide and acts as a highly toxic insecticide, among others, against fleas, mites, lice, and roaches.
The European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) reported elevated levels of Fipronil in eggs and egg products from Belgium. The levels range from 0.0031 to 1.2 mg/kg of chicken egg. In the Netherlands, more than 100 laying hen farms were also precautionarily closed. The WDR now reports a recall of 875,000 eggs in NRW.
If you have any questions, including regarding an investigation for the absence of Fipronil residues, please feel free to contact your BAV customer advisor.
