The legal limits (maximum residue level) for pesticides in food are regulated EU-wide in Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005. Food containing prohibited pesticides or pesticides above the limits are not marketable in the EU.

The reason for the precautionary recall of the affected products is the detection of a plant protection product above the legal maximum residue level. A health impairment cannot be completely ruled out. For reasons of preventive consumer protection, the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety therefore advises against consuming the mentioned early consumption potatoes.
