Recall: Salmonella in Pistachio Helva

The reports on www.lebensmittelwarnung.de provide a good overview of current issues related to food. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) publishes warnings regarding Salmonella in food on this portal, among other things.
Due to the detection of Salmonella, an official recall of the product Helva with pistachios has been announced.
Salmonella is widespread in nature. Common carriers of Salmonella are mainly raw animal foods such as poultry or pork. However, spices and herbs can also be contaminated with Salmonella.
Ready-to-eat foods contaminated with Salmonella are classified as health hazardous because these pathogens can cause severe gastrointestinal infections, which can have serious consequences especially for young children, pregnant women, elderly or sick individuals. In recent years, 90% of foodborne infections have been traced back to Salmonella.
