Recall: STEC/VTEC in Soft Cheese from France

Due to the detection of STEC/VTEC, the official recall of a French soft cheese was initiated. The publication also took place via the website lebensmittelwarnung.de.

STEC/VTEC refers to potentially pathogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains. The terms VTEC (verotoxin-producing E. coli) and STEC (shigatoxin-producing E. coli) are used synonymously. Infections with these strains can sometimes have severe, life-threatening consequences up to death. Pathogens that cause these diseases are known under the term EHEC (enterohemorrhagic E. coli). Both raw animal and plant-based foods are particularly affected.

You can find a profile of the potentially pathogenic E. coli strains STEC/VTEC at the following link:

Further information can also be found on the websites of the RKI and BfR.
