Recall: Tropane alkaloids in flour
The reports on www.lebensmittelwarnung.de provide a good overview of current issues related to food products. The Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) publishes warnings on this portal, including those regarding tropane alkaloids in food.
Due to an exceedance of maximum levels of tropane alkaloids, an official recall of the product "teff flour" has been announced.
Tropane alkaloids (TA) are natural components found in various plants, including thorn apple, henbane, and deadly nightshade. To date, more than 200 different tropane alkaloids have been identified in plants. Alkaloids such as atropine are also used as medications. Even small dosages can affect the central nervous system and heart rate, causing symptoms like nausea, palpitations, headaches, and dizziness.
Further information on tropane alkaloids in food can be found, among other places, on our homepage.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly test for tropane alkaloids. We provide you with fast and reliable results.
