In the month of March, cosmetics were recalled in the EU's rapid alert system (Safety Gate) due to the following issues:
- Prohibited fragrance BMHCA (2-(4-tert-Butylbenzyl) propionaldehyde, synonym: Butylphenyl Methylpropional)
- Contamination with Burkholderia cepacia (< 30,000 CFU/g)
- Excessive amount of Methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate (preservative)
A total of 96 cosmetic products were classified as not safe according to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.
