Recalls Microbiology Cosmetics – ISO 17516 and Burkholderia cepacia

Repeatedly, cosmetics are recalled due to poor microbiological quality according to Regulation (EC) 1223/2009.

In this context, the bacterium Burkholderia cepacia also plays a role. This gram-negative germ can be found in water and is very resistant to external influences. Product contamination occurs, among other things, in wet wipes and baby products. This bacterium is also capable of forming so-called biofilms.

As part of the examination according to ISO 17516, this germ is included. Consideration as part of the preservative efficacy test (PET, ISO 11930) must be need-oriented.

The experts of the BAV Institute provide advice and analysis on this. We look forward to hearing from you!
