Cheese recalls due to listeria
In June of this year, fresh cheese made from cow's milk was recalled due to possible contamination with listeria. The federal states of Thuringia and Saxony are affected as far as is currently known.
Listeria are widely distributed in the environment and can be found in both plant and animal products. In addition to raw products, processed end products can also be affected. Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is the most important representative of the Listeria spp. genus, as L. monocytogenes can cause serious foodborne illnesses, and the number of reported listeriosis cases has tended to increase in recent years. Illnesses can have serious consequences, especially for pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. In food businesses, listeria can establish themselves in certain ecological niches and persist there for a long time. You can find our fact sheet on Listeria monocytogenes here.
In our Tentamus laboratories, we regularly conduct analyses for Listeria monocytogenes as well as Listeria spp. We provide you with quick and reliable results.
