Regulatory Ordinance of the EDI on Cosmetic Products - Differences from Regulation (EC) 1223/2009
The EDI Ordinance on Cosmetic Products (VKos) in Switzerland largely aligns with the European Cosmetics Regulation. An example of this is the dynamic references from Swiss law to EU law, especially in relation to material specifications (Annex lists of EU law). However, there are differences that must be noted. These include, among others:
- The requirement to indicate the country of origin for products manufactured in third countries does not exist.
- Warning labels must be present in at least one of the official languages (German, Italian, French).
- There are special requirements for the claim "made in Switzerland."
- There is a stricter distinction between therapeutic products and cosmetics.
- An incentive levy on VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) is imposed on imports.
If you have questions regarding the regulation of cosmetic products in Switzerland or the EU, we are happy to assist you!
