Report by the BVL and the RKI on Foodborne Disease Outbreaks in Germany 2019
On 29.09.2020, the joint report of the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) and the Robert Koch Institute on the notifiable outbreak events in 2019 due to food was published.
A total of 402 foodborne disease outbreaks were reported to the RKI or the BVL. Most outbreaks were caused by Campylobacter (41%) and Salmonella (32%). However, outbreaks of noroviruses, Listeria monocytogenes, hepatitis A virus, VTEC, Shigella, and Clostridium perfringens were also reported in 2019.
