In 2022, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the Federal Office of Consumer Protection and Food Safety (BVL) registered a total of 211 foodborne disease outbreaks in Germany, representing an increase compared to the previous year. These outbreaks resulted in at least 1,488 illnesses, 268 hospitalizations, and eight deaths associated with the implicated foods.

As in previous years, the main causes of these disease outbreaks were bacteria of the genera Campylobacter spp. and Salmonella spp. These pathogens continue to be the most common causes of foodborne infections and highlight the importance of appropriate preventive measures in the food industry to minimize the spread of such bacteria and ensure food safety.

At the BAV Institute, we routinely conduct testing for pathogenic microorganisms. We provide you with fast and reliable results and are happy to assist you with any concerns regarding product safety. Our customer advisors are available to help with any questions.
