Reports in the Rapid Alert System Safety Gate – Month May 2021 Cosmetics
In May, several cosmetic products were also reported in the EU's rapid alert system called Safety Gate due to potential health hazards.
The complaints were raised due to the following points:
- Increased number of aerobic mesophilic microorganisms (ISO 17516)
- SPF (Sun Protection Factor) significantly lower than stated
- Increased content of hypochlorous acid
- Increased levels of heavy metals (arsenic, lead, nickel)
The safety of cosmetic products is regulated by the EU-wide valid regulation VO (EC) 1223/2009. It contains requirements for substances as well as documentation (safety report, notification, PID, etc.) and requirements for product labeling.
Have your products regularly tested for residues and contaminants. The cosmetic experts of the BAV Institute within the network of the international Tentamus Laboratory Group are at your service with advice and assistance.
